Source-CBSE CLASS 10 QUESTION PAPER 2016(SET-1)

1.Write the name and the molecular formula of an organic compound having its name suffixed with ‘ol’ and having two carbon atoms in its molecule. Write a  balanced equation to show what happens when this compound is heated with excess H2SO4 and name the main product formed .What is the role of conc. H2SO4 in the reaction

2. Ann organic compound ‘P’ is a constituent of wine. P when reacted with acidified K2CrO7 forms another compound ‘Q’. When a piece of sodium is added to the compound Q , a gas’ R’ is evolved that burns with a pop sound. Name P,Q AND R.Also write the chemical reactions involved.

3.  a. You have three unlabelled  test tubes containing  ethanol,ethonoic  acid and soap solution. Using litmus paper and sodium metal identify the three substances.


b. Give the cause of formation of scum, when soaps are treated with hard water.
